The garden of Cobblestone is an ornithologists paradise. One of our visitors observed 26 different species nesting in the early summer of 2004.
The farm has a site of special scientific interest, a ancient moor land which joins onto the extensive wild Bursden Moor. Skylarks abound in the summer and flocks of snipe and starlings are seen readily observed during the winter months.
Birds of prey are seen regularly, the most spectacular is the Peregrine Falcon when it comes inland to swoop and prey.
Hatswell Meadows has several woodland copse acres of water meadows, ponds and a stretch of river bank, diverse habitats for native British birds. In the past year we have spotted a Kingfisher nesting and witnessed an Egret land on the pond.
Hartland is conveniently placed for Bursden Moor, Hartland Point Forest, Northern Burrows, Instow and the Taw and Torridge Estuary.
Hatswell Meadows is handy for the Exe Estuary, Bowling Green Marsh (RSPB), Dawlish Warren and Countess Wear. Exmoor and Dartmoor are also just a drive away.
